We searched for a natural alternative to support the respiratory system during seasonal and chronic challenges. As you can guess, we didn't find it in a factory or a lab. It was waiting for us on the shores of Fiji; where it has been for centuries....
We have worked with Fijian villagers to bring you this extract of Fijian Red Mangrove. Locals call it "Tiri" or "TiTi" because it is often prepared as a tea. For the same reason, we call this active ingredient in our product, "Fiji Titi?." Villagers have used it as an elixir for the common cold or as a tonic for children to prevent them from suffering common seasonal ailments. The adult villagers of the vast network of Fiji Islands have relied on this same plant to support respiratory function in both seasonal and chronic conditions. Our product is made from the aerial rhisomes of three types of red mangrove trees which have hybridized in a unique manner known only in Fiji, Tonga, and Somoa. Fiji seems to be the only country where there is a plethora of these mangroves and which has a tradition of sustainable harvest practices to ensure ecological balance. We work with the villagers to harvest the root in a traditional and sustainable manner thereby creating a ticker, more vibrant, coastal mangrove cover the healthy root system of which creates the necessary environment for the “mud crab” population (which is major industry for village women and families and must be protected). Our harvest practices also ensure that offshore fishing reefs are not silted by shoreline erosion runoff which happens in countries where the mangrove has been destroyed.
Where is it harvested? At present, the Titi is being harvested from various villages in Fiji. A whole village participates in the complete process from the picking, pounding, drying and the packing of the Titi. The young and the very old are involved in the whole process and when there is a harvest, an atmosphere of fun envelops the village as the sound of laughter can be heard everywhere. How is it harvested?Nature’s Nurse harvests according to traditional practices, which yields 3 or 4 shoots regrowing from the same root. Before harvesting, the villagers are told and shown how to pick the roots to ensure the sustainability of the Titi. Most villagers are aware of this as their ancestors taught them the usefulness of the Titi.A percentage of the money the villagers make from the harvest of the Titi is put back into the village. This is matched by Nature’s Nurse for use in village projects like providing running water and raising the standard of living in the village.
